The December joint practice session was held!

The 6th joint practice session of this term was held on December 15 at Fukushima Minpo Hall.

TYO's 10th season kicked off in July, and finally the last practice day of the year came and went. December in Fukushima City, there was even a sprinkling of snow.

In the morning, only string and percussion players practiced together, and in the afternoon, wind players joined in for ensemble practice.

At this year's concert, we will be performing a piece called “Piece for Illia” that Director Sakamoto sent to Mr. Illia Bondarenko of Ukraine. The image of Ms. Bondarenko playing in front of the rubble is very impressive, and I was asked to arrange it into an orchestral version for the TYO concert. This was the first time for me to play it with an ensemble, and it was different from the violin and piano performance...

I am now looking forward to the concert in March. Speaking of concerts! The information of Tohoku Youth Orchestra Concert 2025 has been released at midnight today! Please check it out!

The previous day, on the 14th, there was a rehearsal for the “Volunteer Concert for Noto Peninsula Earthquake and Torrential Rain Reconstruction Assistance IN Hokuriku,” scheduled to be held on January 5 next year at the Himi City Arts Center Hall in Toyama.

In the morning, the students practiced ensemble music at the Fukushima Central Study Center under the guidance of Yuki Takai, who will conduct the event.

In the afternoon, we moved to a different location and had an ensemble practice with Mr. Manabu Takeda of the TYO Fukushima office.

On the day of the event, we plan to perform Director Sakamoto's works and “Flowers Will Bloom ”, a charity song for the Great East Japan Earthquake. We have heard that we have received more applications than we have seats for.

On a personal note, there is a difficult flute solo in the “Yae no Sakura Main Theme,” so I would like to practice a lot before the performance so that I will not be nervous during the performance.

The year 2024 was marked by the Noto Peninsula earthquake and torrential rain disaster, and I would like to perform while praying for a happy and peaceful year 2025.

This is Satoka Ishikawa, flute part.

Have a happy New Year!
