From Mahler to Genghis Khan and camera training! Second report of the Sapporo summer training camp (Part 2)

From Mahler to Genghis Khan and camera training! Second report of the Sapporo summer training camp (Part 2)

Today, we finished practicing Mahler's Symphony No. 1 for 8 hours, and after one run-through (see the previous article for more on running through), it was a relaxing evening. I'll now tell you about the state of the camp. First, the male university students' rooms.

Boys' room for elementary, junior high and high school students.

When filming elementary and junior high school girls' rooms, there were loud screams of "Stop!"

In other words, everyone is stuck in bed forever! (I'm from Kansai.)

I would like to ask the members of the Tohoku Youth Orchestra to make an effort to regularly put their futons away and take them down (I'm just saying this; I can't do it myself...).

Well, after practice, we had the social BBQ that was supposed to be yesterday. But yesterday, we couldn't set up the tents because of the strong winds...

When you think of Hokkaido barbecue, it's all about Genghis Khan and lamb!

Also participating will be Rikako Nagashima, the Tohoku Youth Orchestra's art teacher and graphic designer/art director in charge of all design-related matters, and Naeko Ito, the instructor for the evening workshop.

The two are said to look like sisters, and Rikako-sensei grows reindeer-like antlers, while Yanagisawa-san swaps his baton for tongs and starts grilling himself with great enthusiasm!

Additionally, the three sisters are joined by trombone player Aoi Nishino, a second-year junior high school student from Miyagi.

At this point, Yanagisawa left the venue for work in his hometown of Shinshu.

Then there was the first night of the "Workshop to spread awareness of TYO" hosted by Sapporo-based lifestyle adventurer, Naeko Ito.

As expected of the smartphone and SNS generation, everyone is very interested.

We all took photos that made us want to go to a Tohoku Youth Orchestra concert, uploaded them to Instagram, and received commentary from Professor Ito.

The group of elementary school students who gathered around the screen projecting the photos were particularly active here. Led by Akama Kanayoshi, a sixth grader from Fukushima who plays the horn, they made some very bold comments.

You can see the results on Instagram at #TohokuYouthOke. The URL is here.

It was another long day today. I am currently having a social gathering, which I call a "reflection meeting," as I update this blog and look forward to tomorrow. Thank you for your continued support of the Tohoku Youth Orchestra.
