[November joint practice session: 2nd day ensemble practice]

The second day of the two-day practice session from November 19th (Sat) to 20th (Sun) will be an ensemble practice led by conductor Toshio Yanagisawa.

How are the results of the practice you received the previous day from the instructors of the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra?

Due to the eighth wave of COVID-19, several members have been notified of their absence since two days ago, due to positive tests or close contact with infected individuals, and there are concerns about practice next month and beyond. is.

Today we have one visitor.

Standing near the entrance and greeting us was Yuta Tomizawa (tuba), the eldest of the three Tomizawa brothers and a member of the first group. He is now a teacher of civics and ethics to junior and senior high school students at a secondary school in Kashiwazaki City, Niigata Prefecture. It was a four-hour drive one way, and the day before, he had enjoyed a horse race in Fukushima with his third son, Shogo (a trumpet player who is now an elementary school teacher in Nihonmatsu City).

The teacher, with his impressive beard, brought us some sweets that are only available in Niigata.

During the break, the first-term members approached, exclaiming, "It brings back memories." The members of the Tohoku Youth Orchestra, who were junior high school students when the orchestra was founded, are now university students. This commemorative photo gives a sense of history. Yuta Tomizawa said, "I think you've gotten better overall than before." A female violinist who I met for the first time said to me, "You're the one from the book, aren't you?" In the book "Resound, the Sound of Hope ~The Future Connected by the Tohoku Youth Orchestra~" (Froebel-kan) , Professor Yuta Tomizawa, who is active in the episodes surrounding the volunteer performance, please come and see us again.

During the lunch break, the members who had finished their lunch early were busy practicing for a volunteer performance that will be held in Ishinomaki City for the first time in a while this coming Saturday the 26th.

Fitting for the opening ceremony of the coastal art museum , we watched the brass rehearsal of "Fanfare 2020 / Composed by Hidetoshi Tono", and former captain Shiori Tajima also rehearsed the horn quartet "Born for Horn, Movement 1.4 / W. Pirchner" as a performer. .

From director Ryuichi Sakamoto's works, we will be performing "Ballet Mecaniqe" (arranged by alumnus Yuta Tomizawa, who is with us today) and "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence."
This event will be participated in by 19 volunteer members of the group.

It was a day of working on Mahler's Symphony No. 5 from the morning, and at the end, we had our first ensemble practice of this season's Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Time is Moving Forward" for TYO. However, this season's 8th It turned out that we were missing one percussionist, and at Yanagisawa's discretion, we chose oboe player Sui Sekine, who had been absent due to a shift change, to take over.

He is not a tiger but a gong player, making him the first two-way player in the Tohoku Youth Orchestra. Sekine has just decided to enter the Graduate School of Music at the Kunitachi College of Music, majoring in instrumental music. He plans to continue as a graduate student. So that's it.

After the joint practice, the volunteers performed a horn quartet on Saturday the 26th.

The ending of the song has a performance I've never heard before. I'm looking forward to seeing it in action.

The next joint practice session will be on Sunday, December 11th, with section practice led by instructors from the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra.
