"Three TOHOKUSongs" sheet music released

One of the highlights of the Tohoku Youth Orchestra Concert 2017 in March this year was "Three TOHOKU Songs". This is a piece that left a deep impression on the members of the Tohoku Youth Orchestra, composed and arranged by the London-based composer Dai Fujikura, using folk songs from the three Tohoku prefectures: "Tairyo Utaikomi" from Miyagi Prefecture, "Nambu Yoshare" from Iwate Prefecture, and "Soma Bon Uta" from Fukushima Prefecture. You can watch the performance here.

Regarding this piece, Dai Fujikura made a wonderful proposal. That is, "If a youth orchestra of university students or younger wants to perform this piece, he will lend out the score and performance parts free of charge, which would normally cost money to obtain and use." He also said that even professional orchestras will do the same if they are performing the piece for some kind of charity purpose. I think that anyone familiar with orchestra management will be very surprised that a composer would do something like this. Dai Fujikura sent us a message about this initiative.
"Three TOHOKU Songs" is a work of about five minutes, and features the energetic performance and shouting parts that are unique to youth orchestras, so I think it is a work that professional orchestras can fully demonstrate their skills. I think it would be good to make it the main program of a regular performance, or to play it as an encore. I hope that it will be performed again by a wide variety of orchestras, each of whom will demonstrate their own unique sound. The score of "Three TOHOKU Songs" has already been made available on the Internet by Fujikura.

First, please take a look at this score, and if you are a "youth orchestra of university students or younger who would like to try this piece" or a "professional orchestra considering performing it for charity purposes," please contact the Tohoku Youth Orchestra Office (info@tohoku-youth-orchestra.org) or email Fujikura Dai directly at the URL below. (Note that it is also possible to perform this piece at a regular performance by a professional orchestra (outside of charity purposes), but in that case, as with other pieces, a rental fee for the sheet music will be charged. In that case, please contact Fujikura using the information below.)
