[Member Interview] Yuri Nishimura (Bassoon)

We will be sending you regular interviews with members of the orchestra until the concert. This time we have Yuri Nishimura (bassoon)!

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Yakiniku.

Q: What prefecture do you live in?

A: Fukushima.

Q: How long have you been making music?

A: I've been playing the piano since I was 3 years old. I started playing the bassoon in my first year of high school.

Q: What do you like most about being a musician?

A: I think it's being able to convey feelings without words. When I was in high school, I used to go to hospitals and facilities to perform. The elderly people would cry with joy and it made me very happy.

Q: What made you join TYO?

A: I joined after being invited by a senior in high school.

Q: Has anything changed before and after 3/11?

A: The tsunami didn't hit my neighborhood, but there were landslides. My parents' friends were killed, and my relatives' houses were washed away by the tsunami. So I realized once again how nice it is to have people who will help you when you're in trouble, and how grateful I am for the things that we take for granted.

Q: How do you feel about joining TYO?

A: Meeting new people is fun. I also deepen my connections with friends through music.

Q: What are the highlights of the March concert?

Everyone is so nice, and that shows in their performance. The Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall is a great place, so I hope a lot of people will come.
