[Member Interview] Mimu Sato (2nd violin)
We will be sending you regular interviews with members of the orchestra until the concert. Our second interviewee is Miyu Sato (second violin)!
Q: Where are you from?
A: Fukushima.
Q: How long have you been making music?
A: I've been doing it since I was 3 years old.
Q: What is the best thing about being a musician?
A: Being able to interact with so many different people. Also, it's fun when the audience is happy to hear our performance. You can tell by their smiles, the volume of their applause, and things like that.
Q: How is your activity with the Tohoku Youth Orchestra?
A: Up until now, we've been playing with local kids and the members were fixed, but this time it's refreshing to play with people from different prefectures in Tohoku. It's a great learning experience to be able to interact with people of all ages, from elementary school students to university students.
Q: Has anything changed since 3/11?
A: I realized how grateful I am to be able to live a normal life every day. After the earthquake, the water was cut off, I couldn't go to school and couldn't see my friends. I'm not in Fukushima now because I'm at university, but whenever there's an earthquake, I always contact my parents to make sure they're safe. There's still contaminated soil left, so I'm worried about what will happen.
