Kumamoto Castle Hall Opening Commemorative Performance
Presented by Ryuichi Sakamoto
Reconnect -Connecting Kumamoto and Tohoku-
■Date and time: Wednesday, December 25, 2019 (time to be determined)
■ Venue Kumamoto Castle Hall Main Hall
■ Overview (※Extracted from Kumamoto Castle Hall website)
A reconstruction support concert planned by Ryuichi Sakamoto will be held to commemorate the opening of Kumamoto Castle Hall.
The main focus of the performance will be an ensemble to pray for recovery by two youth orchestras from areas that have experienced disaster: the Tohoku Youth Orchestra, formed by elementary school to university students from the three Tohoku prefectures (Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima) that were affected by the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and for which Ryuichi Sakamoto serves as musical director, and the Kumamoto Youth Symphony Orchestra, whose members range from elementary school students to members aged 29 in Kumamoto Prefecture.
The first half of the performance will feature Ryuichi Sakamoto's piano solo, a trio performance by Ryuichi Sakamoto + Mari Fujiwara (cello) + Mari Adachi (viola), and a reading of a poem wishing for peace by actress Sayuri Yoshinaga, accompanied by music by the Kumamoto and Tohoku Youth Orchestras.
This is an attempt to "reconnect" connections between humans and nature, between regions and communities, and between people through music.
Enjoy this one-night-only special live performance that connects the hearts of Kumamoto and Tohoku.
